Learners will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Ruthven Park’s rich military history through an inquiry based exploration of our primary and secondary sources. Their investigation will uncover the experiences of the Thompsons and other members of Haldimand County before, during, and after the First World War.

Targeted Age Groups: Grades 10, 11, 12 (ages 15-18)

Program Length: 2.5 Hours

    A1.5 use the concepts of historical thinking (i.e., historical significance, cause and consequence, continuity and change, and historical perspective) when analysing, evaluating evidence about, and formulating conclusions and/or judgements regarding issues, events, and/or developments in world history since 1900

    B2.1 explain the main causes and short-term consequences of World War I

  • A1.1 formulate different types of questions to guide investigations into issues, events, and/or developments in Canadian history, with a focus on the development of identity and culture

    A1.2 select and organize relevant evidence and information on aspects of Canadian history from a variety of primary and secondary sources ensuring that their sources reflect a range of perspectives

    D2.1 describe domestic and international conflicts in which Canadian military forces participated during this period and assess their contribution to the development of Canada, including the development of identity in Canada
